Vimeo – Get Your Videos Online

ss-vimeo

Sharing personal videos on the web used to involve a long and complicated process of resizing the videos for online viewing and finding a web server to place the files. Now that technology has advanced, publishing videos has become considerably easier. Allowing friends and family members the pleasure of viewing your personal video collections can be done with just a click of a few buttons.Vimeo is a video sharing site that is gaining in popularity. The website has a simple interface that is easy to use with a sleek design. The customizable player can also be quickly embedded into other websites such as Facebook or MySpace.

A distinguishing point of Vimeo’s service is the ability to maintain exceptionally high quality videos – up to full 720p HD. Instead of having uploaded videos degraded into grainy images, viewers will see your videos as you intended them to be seen. The 500mb weekly limit on Vimeo will get you started in your uploading journey.

Practical Uses:

  • Share the videos of your newborn with friends and family
  • Share your thoughts with a video blog
  • Promote your music skills by uploading live shows to Vimeo

Insider Tips:

  • Encourage folks who watch your videos to register to enable all of Vimeo’s functionality including downloading original versions of videos
  • Facebook users can add videos easily with the Vimeo widget and HTML badge

What We Liked:

  • Ability to download original versions of videos
  • The entire web interface was very user friendly. Uploading videos can be done with great ease
  • Being able to view uploaded videos in HD is a major bonus that sets Vimeo apart from other video websites

What we didn’t like:

  • Although Vimeo offers a nice chunk of upload space for videos, being restricted to a weekly quota can be frustrating
