SocialWok – Total Sharing For Businesses & Groups

SocialWok is a project management and collaboration system that harnesses the power of various Google Apps and social networking tools to create a singular platform where companies of any size can get work done in a more productive manner. Rather than reinventing the wheel, SocialWok has reinterpreted it. For companies that already use a variety of Google Apps, such as Gmail, Google Docs, or Google Calendar, SocialWok has integrated each application’s functions into its interactive platform in an effort to help clients and colleagues work together more quickly and efficiently, without many the privacy concerns that can sometimes come up when working with social networking apps.

If you already use Gmail, then starting an account with SocialWok is as easy as just typing in your email account information. Create new feeds for each project you’re working on, invite your coworkers to join in, and import any upcoming events that pertain to your projects directly from your Google Calendar app. Similar to the way you’d update your status message on Facebook, SocialWok lets you leave comments on any feed as a way to tell collaborators what you’re up to next. Without leaving the SocialWok site, you can view, edit, and share your Google Docs with any of your other project collaborators or chat with them directly by using the Google Talk app.

Although many of the key SocialWok features have to do with Google Apps integration, there’s no need to have a Google account in order to start using the system. Users with a company email address can just as easily create an account and get involved in feed discussions. In addition, you can easily update the status of your other social networking accounts, such as Facebook and Twitter, directly through the SocialWok site whether you have a Google account or not. For companies that rely on Google Apps to get by, SocialWok is a project management platform that might definitely be worth exploring.

Practical Uses:

  • Make sure all collaborators know what’s going on with a project
  • Create separate feeds to make managing multiple projects easier
  • Share events from Google Calendar with all of your coworkers at once
  • Collaborate on documents and spreadsheets

Insider Tips:

  • Sign up for weekly digests to view all the updates within your feeds in a single email
  • To mention users in an update, use the @ sign just as you would with Twitter
  • Email all group collaborators at once by using a feed-specific email address
  • Create a feed to track your company’s mentions on Twitter or Facebook

What we liked:

  • No need to create new accounts, since SocialWok works with your Google Apps
  • Anyone who uses Facebook should be able to understand how to use SocialWok since the feed functionalities are similar
  • Clients can be invited to participate only in the feeds that affect their specific projects
  • Ability to respond to users who’ve commented to your company’s Facebook account through the SocialWok platform

What we didn’t like:

  • New users must manually invite anyone they wish to collaborate with by email
