Freedcamp – The Zero Cost Solution

Companies that need a better way to manage projects but don’t have the money to spare for a robust online system now have a solution: They can turn to Freedcamp without spending a dime. The free project management application offers to-do lists, milestones, discussions, file sharing, and time tracking tools to students, start-ups and small businesses at a price that cannot be beat.

Register for an account with Freedcamp by choosing a username or logging in with Facebook. If you currently use a competing project management application like Basecamp, you can import the data from your old system into Freedcamp in an instant. Click over to the dashboard to see everything that has been going on with your company, including a list of the day’s must-do items, an ongoing discussion among team members, and any newly added milestones that serve as deadlines for group projects. Colleagues can comment directly on each others’ to-do list items for advice or information on completing a particular task. For more in depth conversations, users can utilize Freedcamp’s discussions board, which serves as a sort of internal forum where colleagues can give suggestions, offer ideas, and discuss general business-related topics.

Freedcamp is a full-fledged, robust system. As such, it offers time tracking tools to help with invoicing and even includes a file-sharing feature with up to 20 MB of storage for each project owner. Companies that use an instant messaging system to communicate don’t have to worry about giving up their current system when they start using Freedcamp. The web-app supports IMing with AIM, Facebook, and Gtalk, through an integrated Meebo toolbar.

Practical Uses:

  • Get the employees at your start-up company organized and on track
  • Start setting deadlines for when remote workers need to have their tasks done
  • Share files with colleagues in a secure online environment
  • Track how much time you spend working on a particular client’s project

Insider Tips:

  • Prioritize certain tasks so employees know what to tackle first
  • Each project owner gets 20 MB of free storage
  • IM clients who use AIM or Gtalk by using the Meebo chat toolbar
  • Set up RSS feeds to track your entire company’s progress in Google Reader

  • Freedcamp offers all the tools of a regular project management app without the high price
  • Supervisors can see an overview of what every employee is working on from the dashboard page
  • Milestone feature counts down the days until a particular project is due
  • Colleagues can comment on each other’s to-do list items
