Vox.io – Talk Is Cheap

Who still pays for landline service? These days, people who make frequent long-distance calls are increasingly turning away from landlines and mobiles, and toward the web. With vox.io, friends located across the world can hold marathon chat sessions without breaking the bank or using up all their precious mobile phone minutes.

If you can use a telephone and the Internet on a regular basis, then you can use vox.io. The service is not hard to figure out. To sign up, just enter your name and email address, choose a username and a password, and allow vox.io to access your computer webcam and microphone. As soon as you’re set up, you can start making voice and video calls to friends around the world. Just type in the number of the person you want to reach, click the button that looks like a phone, and you’re good to go. These calls are made through your browser, so you don’t have to worry about downloading any separate programs or software suites. Vox.io lets you enter your personal number into the system, so people who check their caller IDs will still know it’s you even when you’re using the online phone. Calls to other vox.io users are free, although you will need to pay a nominal fee to make calls to friends still using landline and mobile phones.

Rather than bogging users down with more voicemail accounts that they have to check each day, vox.io makes it easy by sending automated emails whenever a call gets missed. Vox.io also offers a handful of other useful features, like an iPhone app, call analytics tools, group text messaging, and synchronization with LinkedIn and Google Contacts.
