Tagged – Moving Forward, One Connection at a Time

ss-tagged

In the ever-growing world of social networking websites, it isn’t easy to stand apart from the pack. Tagged, however, has managed to separate itself from others in its category and grow into a community with more than 15 million active users by helping people move into the future rather than getting stuck in the past. Whereas other networking sites put the emphasis on re-connecting with old friends, Tagged encourages its users to make new ones.

Besides its emphasis on “social discovery,” the way Tagged works is very similar to that of other networking websites like Facebook and MySpace. After signing up for a free account, users can upload photos, send messages to friends, create new groups, or post on nearly any topic under the sun in the Tagged forums. Unlike other social networking sites, Tagged has age-specific chat rooms based on common interests or geographic location. It also features a handful of games—like Sorority Life and YoVille—that you can play against your online friends.

Although Tagged’s users skew towards the younger end of the spectrum, the site offers features that appeal to older crowds as well, such as its “Meet Me” feature and classmate search that allows you to find friends from your past. Overall, we would recommend Tagged to anyone looking to expand their network of friends online.

Practical Uses:

  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Play games like Mafia Wars and online poker
  • Share photos of yourself with friends
  • Watch videos submitted by other users

Insider Tips:

  • Purchase virtual gifts for other users using “Gold currency”
  • Add a unique skin to your profile for an individualized look
  • See which users have recently viewed your profile
  • Send virtual “tags” to your friends
  • Meet other members with similar interests in age-specific chat rooms

What we liked:

  • Ability to add widgets and videos to your profile
  • Tagged makes it easy to invite friends to join your groups
  • Virtually “wink” at other users you like
  • Videos can be sorted by Most Viewed, Top Rated, or Most Linked

What we didn’t like:

  • Confusing registration process makes it easy to unintentionally give Tagged permission to invite your entire e-mail contact list to join the service
  • Overall site design might be too cluttered for some tastes
