GoSquared – Keeping An Eye On Traffic

GoSquared is a traffic monitoring application that keeps track of everyone who’s signing up and logging on to its users’ websites. What makes GoSquared innovative is that it tracks incoming and outgoing traffic in real-time, rather than making its users wait a period of minutes or hours to find out what’s going on with their sites. Never again will web publishers have to wait around to find out which posts are hot and which visitors are having the most influence, now that GoSquared is around.

If you’ve used Google Analytics or Chartbeat in the past, then you should have no problem getting signed up and started with GoSquared. Once you create an account and add your website, it can take as little as 60 seconds for GoSquared to gather everything it needs to start monitoring your traffic in real time. GoSquared offers two basic services, LiveStats and Trends. As a new user, you’ll want to start by checking out the LiveStats dashboard. That’s the place where you can find up-to-the-minute information about what’s going on with your sites. Visitor locations, page rankings, and top referrers are also listed on this main page. LiveStats also makes it possible to see what people are saying about your business or your products on Twitter at any time.

Once you’ve gotten comfortable with the LiveStats features, head over to the Trends section. GoSquared’s Trends feature automatically analyzes the data produced by LiveStats. Immediate traffic updates are put into graphs that are both easy to read and easy to manipulate by changing the variables. GoSquared Trends also offers a number of widgets that you can use to visually see the top pages on your site or top referrers at all times. GoSquared data is easy to share among teammates and always accessible via the iPhone or iPod Touch mobile devices.

Practical Uses:

  • Find out which websites are referring the most readers
  • See which articles readers are responding to and keep those near the top of your homepage
  • Immediately find out when your site has a surge or a significant drop in traffic
  • Keep track of what people are saying about your company on Twitter

Insider Tips:

  • Use GoSquared widgets to track important data at all times
  • GoSquared data can be viewed on the iPod or iPod Touch
  • Traffic stats can be shared with colleagues by sending invitations for limited-time access to the site
  • Twitter replies can be sent without leaving the GoSquared dashboard
  • WordPress users can use the GoSquared plugin rather than embedding tracking code into their site’sHTML

What we liked:

  • GoSquared offers immediate traffic updates without any lag time
  • Free 30-day trial lets people experience the app before making any commitments
  • Immediately analytics tools allow publishers to respond accordingly when certain posts are receiving a large amount of traffic
  • GoSquared tracks how long visitors spend on each page

What we didn’t like:

  • GoSquared offers many of the same features as Chartbeat, and people who are happy with their current analytics service are unlikely to switch to such a similar app

Really? I wasn’t aware that Chartbeat let you view Live Stats, GoSquared’s killer feature!
