Nextly – Intelligent Online Browsing

ss-nextly
Nextly is a web-application that aims to change the way people browse the Internet. (A big goal, to say the least.) To facilitate that change, Nextly has developed what it calls ‘smart streams’ that people can use to quickly read, save, and share collections of updated websites in real-time.

Log-in to Nextly by connecting with your Twitter or Facebook account, and then pick a stream to view out of the thousands of streams Nextly has already set up. When you view the Nextly feed for a large news organization (like the New York Times or CNN.com), you can quickly flip through articles by clicking the right arrow button on your computer. Flipping from article to article is just as quick (if not quicker) than turning the page of a printed newspaper. Individual pages are pre-loaded, and one-touch browsing means than even a mouse can’t slow you down. As a reader, you can even share articles on Twitter or Facebook with one-touch keyboard shortcuts.

Favorite articles can be added to your “Collection,” along with comments and tags to add context. Each user gets his own URL, which means other users can follow your Collection for a curated list of all the articles you’re finding interesting this week. You can also tweet pages, share them on Facebook or email, or open them in a new tab by clicking the Export button near the top of the browser window.

Practical Uses:

  • Quickly flip through the most-emailed New York Times articles
  • Save all your favorite articles in one spot
  • Find out what your best friend has been reading about
  • Share your favorite stories with followers on Facebook and Twitter

Insider Tips:

  • Explore streams by topic or keyword
  • Nextly is more useful when you connect your Facebook and Twitter accounts
  • Reply or retweet Twitter messages without leaving the page you’re on
  • Share your Nextly URL with friends who’d like to follow your collection

What we liked:

  • Pages are pre-loaded, which means it’s easy to quickly flip through stories
  • Keyboard shortcuts are another way users can save time
  • Nextly has already created thousands of collections for users to browse
  • People can create their own article collections

What we didn’t like:

  • Users can only add articles from certain websites to their Nextly collections
