Streme – Curated Links Around Any Theme

ss-streme
Streme is a collaborative bookmarking tool that does more than just help people save and store website links. The web-based application offers a way for its users to share videos, photos, music and other forms of online content with their friends without having to create yet another online account to do so.

One of the features that sets Streme apart from competing bookmarking applications is that users can “streme” anonymously. Create a streme for yourself or your friends, and start adding the content you love. With Streme, you can add YouTube videos and Soundcloud songs right alongside your personal photographs and favorite URLs. When your streme is complete, share the provided link with anyone you choose. Link recipients can add their own content to your streme, making Streme a completely collaborative application.

Although most people will use Streme to create shareable playlists, the application is also incredibly useful for anyone who’s interested in sharing lists of their favorite restaurants, favorite videos, or even just some general design ideas. Stremes can be shared with no one, everyone or just a select subset of a user’s online friends.

Practical Uses:

  • Create a playlist with your favorite songs from the ‘80s
  • Collaborate on a collection of design ideas with your partner
  • Make a list of the best restaurants in New York
  • Ask your friends to add their favorite music videos to a shareable list

Insider Tips:

  • Use Streme anonymously by choosing a temporary name to show others when adding to a streme
  • Comment underneath any item that’s been added to a streme
  • Connect Streme to Facebook, Twitter, Gmail or GitHub
  • Browse the public stremes created by other users

What we liked:

  • People can play audio files from within the Streme app
  • Streme encourages people to add descriptions to anything they add
  • Streme automatically pulls up an image from any link a user adds to a streme
  • Users can see how many times their stremes have been viewed and shared

What we didn’t like:

  • Because Streme is still new, a number of planned features haven’t been rolled out
