BabyNameo – Pick the Right Name

Parents who want to give their children a head start in life know that choosing the right name is important. Selecting the right first name can open doors for a child, while the wrong name can limit a child’s chances of succeeding in certain industries or professions. BabyNameo is a web-app that takes the process of naming babies very, very seriously.

BabyNameo is an application that you can use to get detailed information and data on more than 15,200 baby names. If you’re pregnant and deciding between a few different names, then it’s worthwhile to type your top picks into the BabyNameo search bar. Immediately, you’ll see a popularity index, native spelling, gender, meaning, and origin, just as you would with many other baby naming applications. What sets BabyNameo apart from other baby naming applications, however, is that it doesn’t stop there. BabyNameo also offers an Industry Analysis, which shows the top industries for any given name, along with an Ivy League Analysis that displays the percentage of people with that name who attend each Ivy League university.

The fun doesn’t stop there. BabyNameo members who’ve created custom accounts also get access to a special uniqueness rating, prestige rating, income analysis reports, and education analysis reports for each baby name they put into the system. To create these analysis reports, BabyNameo culls data from the census, municipal archives, public directories, university directories, and its users’ own personal information.

Practical Uses:

  • Choose the best baby name for your unborn child
  • Find out if the baby name you like is popular among students at Harvard
  • See the average income of a person with the name you’re thinking of choosing
  • Get information about the origin and meaning of any names you like

Insider Tips:

  • BabyNameo gets its data from public directories and user submissions
  • Members can find out which industries people with certain names are most apt to go into
  • The education analysis shows the percentage of people with certain names who have graduate degrees
  • Users can submit updates if they feel any data on BabyNameo is incorrect

What we liked:

  • Expecting parents can make sure the names they like don’t have any bad connotations
  • The popularity index shows how popular a specific name has been in the past year
  • Users can create their own accounts in less than 30 seconds
  • People can find out what Ivy League schools their children are most likely to attend, based on their given names

What we didn’t like:

  • Although BabyNameo’s education and income data is fun to look at, it shouldn’t be taken too seriously
