Syphir – A Super Charged Inbox

Syphir is a web-app that uses “turbo-charged” filters and sophisticated email alerts to control clutter and eliminate chaos in people’s Gmail inboxes. At the heart of the system are its “Rules” and “SmartPush” alerts, which elevate Syphir from a basic email management tool to an intelligent organizational application. People who use Syphir to manage their email inboxes can get more work done by spending less time sifting through meaningless junk mail and spam messages each day. And really, who wouldn’t like to be more productive on a daily basis?

To use Syphir’s “Rules” and “SmartPush” technology, you’ll need to have a Gmail account and an iPhone. Begin by signing into Syphir with your Gmail or Google Apps login and setting up your own rules. Syphir’s rules work similarly to Gmail’s basic filters, allowing you to choose which emails make it into your inbox and which get stuck in purgatory or deleted altogether. Rules essentially function like a hyped up version of basic email filters. Rather than just filtering emails by sender or keyword, you can use Syphir to filter emails by the time of day, the number of recipients, or length of time an email has been in your inbox. Syphir also makes it possible to delay the arrival of certain emails – ensuring that you’re never distracted during a productive time of day by spam emails or forwards from friends.

The second key part of using Syphir is the web-app’s SmartPush alerts for iPhone users. The SmartPush system ensures that you will never miss an important email – or get distracted by unimportant messages – by pushing an alert to your phone when new emails arrive from your most important colleagues and friends. Adjust the sensitivity levels if too few or too many emails are being pushed to your iPhone by changing the Syphir rules you’ve set up.

Practical Uses:

  • Spend less time checking your email inbox each day
  • Stay focused on a project by limiting the window of time when new messages arrive in your inbox
  • Filter out spam messages and annoying email forwards sent by acquaintances
  • Make sure to find out when an important message comes even, even if you’re not at a computer

Insider Tips:

  • Download the Syphir iPhone application to use the SmartPush technology
  • Filter emails based on the number of recipients
  • Set a timetable for when new emails can hit your inbox each day
  • Create “rules” that automatically archive emails after a certain number of days

What we liked:

  • Users can delay emails from certain sources – like Facebook or Twitter – until after working hours
  • Rules function similarly to filters, making it easy to understand how Syphir works
  • Syphir’s iPhone applications ensures important emails won’t get missed
  • Rules can be managed, added to, or deleted at any time

What we didn’t like:

  • Although Syphir is free, users will have to pay for the iPhone app
